Ben Henderson spoiled Jim Miller’s bid for an eighth-straight win and shot at the lightweight title in Sunday’s UFC on Versus 5 co-main event, as the former WEC champion Henderson survived countless submission attempts early to pummel Miller and earn a unanimous decision with 30-27, 29-28, and 30-26 scores.
Henderson improved to 14-2 with the win and is now 2-0 in the UFC, while Miller suffered his first loss since early-2009 after previously losing only to current ligthweight champ Frankie Edgar and top contender Gray Maynard. After the victory, Henderson got on his knees to beg for a shot in the UFC for his teammates.

Round 1 – Miller and Henderson both lunge with jabs to stark the fight. Miller lands an inside leg kick, Henderson returns with a jab, then Miller moves into the clinch, but Henderson pushes them to the center of the Octagon. Miller latches on to Henderson with an arm triangle, but he escapes into Miller’s half guard as they go to the ground. Henderson fires a head kick as they scramble to their feet, but Miller grabs an arm and Henderson struggles to get free but eventually goes. Henderson punches the body, but Miller quickly grabs a guillotine. Henderson gets free again and postures up with punches and elbows on the ground. Round 2 – Henderson’s more aggressive than Miller to start the second as they trade punches and kicks. Henderson gets Miller to the canvas and opens up a cut over his eye with ground and pound. Miller tries to get Henderson under control, then rolls for a leg but Henderson capitalizes with a series of elbows. Miller grabs a kneebar that appears tight, but Henderson signals he’s okay and escapes. Henderson resumes his attack before Miller grabs a heel hook. Henderson escapes again and punishes Miller with ground and pound. Miller goes for a kimura as Henderson punches the body, but abandons it and tries to fight back from the bottom, but Henderson finishes the round with another flurry leaving Miller’s face bloody and swollen. Round 3 – Miller attacks to start the third, but Henderson appears the fresher fighter and kicks him down. Miller tags Henderson in an exchange and tries to take him down, but Henderson reverses with a takedown of his own and pours on more ground and pound. Miller powers back to his feet with Henderson on his back, but can’t slam him off. Henderson gets his hooks in as he goes for the rear naked choke, then rains down punches and elbows as Miller struggles just to survive. Miller tries to escape with Henderson in side control, but Henderson stays on top and pummels Miller with hard punches. Henderson postures up with more ground and pound, then grabs a guillotine. Miller escapes, but Henderson makes him pay with a knee to the body. Miller looks for a late flurry back on their feet, but Henderson avoids until the bell.
