Former top-ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko will look to snap his three-fight losing streak when he takes on veteran Jeff Monson in M-1 in Russia on Nov. 12, a date that already features the UFC’s debut on Fox with heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos.
Monson “confirmed” the matchup on Twitter on Tuesday night.
Emelianenko (31-4) was let go by Strikeforce following losses to Fabricio Werdum, Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, and Dan Henderson that came after 27-straight wins over nearly 10 years.
Monson (42-12), who came up short against champion Tim Sylvia in his final UFC bout in 2006, more recently won eight-straight before dropping a unanimous decision to undefeated prospect Daniel Cormier in June. Before facing Emelianenko, “The Snowman” is scheduled to take on UFC vet Gabriel Gonzaga in the main event of W-1: Reloaded on Oct. 15 in Miami.
It is not yet known how the fight will be televised, though M-1 Global does have a broadcast deal with Showtime.
