Anderson Silva Likely Out Until 2012 from Shoulder Injury

UFC middleweight champion Anderson SilvaUFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva likely won’t fight again until 2012 after recovering from a shoulder injury suffered in training before his second-round TKO of Yushin Okami last month at UFC 134 in his native Brazil.

Silva’s manager Ed Soares recently told MMAFighting that Silva is not expected to need surgery, but is taking time off to rehab the injury. Silva also fought injured in his comeback win over Chael Sonnen in August, then returned for a first-round knockout of Vitor Belfort in February.

Silva is expected to face the winner of a October’s UFC 136 matchup between Sonnen and Brian Stann when he can return to the Octagon early next year.
