Bellator 51 took place on Saturday in Canton, Ohio and MMAFrenzy.com was in attendance as Bellator’s season five bantamweight tournament kicked off with Alexis Vila knocking out Joe Warren and Eduardo Dantas upsetting Wilson Reis in quarterfinal matchups.
In the other bantamweight quarterfinals in front of an estimated crowd of 1,500, Ed West topped Luis Nogueira in the “Fight of the Night,” while Marcos Galvao edged Chase Beebe in a split decision that sent Beebe to the hospital with a broken foot.
After the event, Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney announced the bantamweight semifinals as Vila vs. Galvao and West vs. Dantas, which are scheduled for Bellator 55 on Oct. 22 in Yuma, Arizona.
The bantamweight quarterfinal results were:
- Alexis Vila def. Joe Warren via KO – Round 1, 1:04
- Eduardo Dantas def. Wilson Reis via TKO – Round 1, 1:02 wins by TKO at 1:02 of the second round.
- Marcos Galvao def. Chase Beebe via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)
- Ed West def. Luis Nogueira via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28)
Round 1: A round of kickboxing and guard work for West. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round 10-9 for Ed West.
Round 2: Three minutes of kickboxing for West followed by a takedown by Nogueira. Quick escape for West. Clinch work favoring Nogueira. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round 10-9 for West, barely.
Round 3: West practices “Hit and Run” kick boxing. Nogueira gets a couple clinches, but doesn’t do anything significant. One scramble with West almost securing a kimura. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round 10-9 for West.
Galvao vs. Beebe
Round 1:Galvao works out of two REALLY deep guillotine chokes. Galvao has the better of the standup and some good groundwork too. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round 10-9 for Galvao.
Round 2: Galvao throws headhunting shots most of the round with some success. Secures two takedowns and gets tapped with an illegal upkick. They tap gloves to show no harm. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round10-9 for Galvao.
Round 3: More headhunting shots for Galvao and some now from Beebe, who senses he may need a finish. Beebe rocks Galvao a couple times and vice versa. Both men trying not to leave it to the judges, but they do. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round 10-9 for Beebe on aggression with all other factors even.
Reis vs. Dantas
Round 1: Very even round. Reis gets a sort of takedown, but Dantas gets back up. They work to a clinch with Reis having the advantage until Mark Matheny moves them to the middle. Reis got a mini-takedown, but Dantas had better standup. MMAFrenzy.com scores the round 10-10.
Round 2: Clinch work until Reis backs out and turns his back only to be greeted by a flying knee from Dantas and follow up strikes end the fight.
Warren vs. Vila
Round 1: Well that was quick. Vila hit Warren with a left that staggered the Featherweight champ, but he recovered. However, Warren then ate another left that left him stiff on the canvas for a solid fifteen seconds.
