Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson has signed with the UFC to replace an injured Mike Stumpf in a welterweight bout against Justin Edwards at next month’s UFC 143 event, the UFC announced Tuesday.
Thompson (5-0) is unbeaten with 2 knockouts, 2 decisions, and 1 submission on the regional circuit in his home state of South Carolina and Georgia, while Edwards (7-2), a castmember on The Ultimate Fighter 13, dropped a unanimous decision to John Maguire at UFC 138 to fall to 1-2 in the UFC.
The UFC 143 fight card is headlined by Nick Diaz vs. Carlos Condit for the interim welterweight title and also includes Roy Nelson vs. Fabricio Werdum and Josh Koscheck vs. Mike Pierce.
