Jake Ellenberger outlasted Diego Shields in the main event of UFC on Fuel TV 1 on Wednesday night in Omaha, Nebraska to continue his climb up the welterweight ladder.
Heavyweight Stefan Struve knocked out Dave Herman in the co-main event, while Ronny Markes, Stipe Miocic, T.J. Dillashaw, and Ivan Menjivar also scored main card wins.

Jake Ellenberger vs. Diego Sanchez
Round 1 – Dan Miraglotta is our referee in tonight’s main event. Fighters get right to it as Ellenberger looks for a big lead left hook that misses. Diego storms forward with a combo that misses and gets countered by Jake. More wild overhand rights from Diego miss. Diego storms forward and briefly attempts a takedown. Front kick by Ellenberger slows Diego but Diego lands some nice counter shots. Leg kick by Ellenberger. Wild combo from Diego that mostly misses, Ellenberger goes for a takedown that misses but he lands some strong shots on the way out. Sanchez storms again and gets caught moving forward by Ellenberger. Sanchez gets dropped briefly but recovers and Ellenberger grabs a front-headlock. Round 2 – Spinning back kick from Diego misses. Ellenberger with a headkick that Sanchez checks. Diego eats a solid hook from Ellberger and tries to counter but misses as Ellenberger evades. Leg kick by Ellenberger slows another storming attack by Sanchez. Diego is telegraphing his attacks by loading up and it’s allowing Ellenberger to evade and counter. Overhand right by Ellenberger. Sanchez storms forward again but Ellenberger times it and lands an easy double leg into Diego’s guard. Ellenberger is controlling posture and is doing a good job of peppering Sanchez without getting caught in multiple armbar attempts. Round 3 – Front head kick by Ellenberger. Diego storms again but Ellenberger defends by going for shot that he doesn’t pursue. Diego storms again and eats a combo from Ellenberger. Leg kick followed by an overhand left from Ellenberger knocks Sanchez off balance but he recovers. Diego storms again but doesn’t land much. Jab from Ellenberger lands. Diego storms again and lands a hook but his momentum is stopped when Ellenberger drops to a single. Diego defends and fires a headkick that Ellenberger checks and counters. Nice body shot by Diego. Ellenberger takes advantage though and secures a double leg takedown. Diego escapes though and takes Ellenberger’s back along the cage. Diego is unloading along the cage as Ellenberger keeps looking for a way out. Diego’s pace slows and Ellenberger escapes as the round ends and rocks Diego with some hard shots along the cage. Round 1 – Josh Rosenthal is our referee and we are under way. Herman looks odd with all the body and facial hair. Fighters are exchanging shots early with Struve playing the outside of the cage. Herman tries to rush inside his reach but it doesn’t accomplish much. Struve isn’t doing too much early as Herman is just trying to get inside his reach with occasional combos. Front kick to a cross from Struve and Herman goes for an ugly jumping front kick. High kick from Herman hits Struve’s chest. Body kick by Struve. Inside legkick from Struve. Front kick by Herman followed by a legkick. Inside legkick by Struve. Outside thigh kick by Herman ends the round. MMAFrenzy scores the round 10-9 Herman.
Round 2 – Inside legkick by Herman answers a pair of missed jabs by Struve. Struve storms in and Herman tries to clinch but gets taken down directly into mount. Struve goes for his back but slides off and Herman lets him up. Short break to let Struve fix his glove. Struve is being the aggressor here in Round 2. Combo by Struve. Struve connects with a few solid punches but Herman rotates away from the cage. Herman is circling wildly. A Struve left hook is followed by a nasty legkick and wicked uppercut from Struve that rocks Herman and Struve swarms. Struve moves to mount and is teeing off on a defending Herman. Herman struggles to defend and eventually referee Josh Rosenthal steps in. Herman briefly tries to grapple with the referee before realizing what happened.

Aaron Simpson vs. Ronny Markes
Round 1 – Jim Axtell is our referee. Glove touch and we’re off. Simpson with a rushing combo that Markes counters with one of his own that clips Simpson. Simpson is rocked and reeling but Markes goes for a takedown rather than finishing him off and it turns out to be a mistake as Simpson out-grapples him along the cage. The referee breaks the fighters up and we’re centered again. Simpson goes for a combo but Markes launches a brilliant counter combo but can’t follow up. Simpson rocks Markes with an uppercut and pounces with an impressive volley of strikes. Markes recovers guard as Simpson still works his ground and pound. Simpson stands to look for a pass but Markes defends well until Axtell stands them up. Powerful shot from Markes lands and Simpson grabs a body clinch and works him to the cage. Impressive opening round, with both fighters being rocked. MMAFrenzy scores the round 10-9 Simpson.
Round 2 – Simpson counters a pair of Markes’ legkicks with overhand rights. Simpson drops on a single and Markes defends with a whizzer. We’re centered again. Nice exchange by both fighters and Simpson drops for a shot that Markes defends well but Simpson gets it to the cage. Body lock by Simpson that briefly gets Markes down but Markes defends and gains control of the clinch against the fence. Nice knee by Markes. Simpson reverses and lands a few shots before Markes reverses him and scores a trip takedown. Simpson is controlling Markes posture before Markes finally breaks free. Nice strikes by Markes but Simpson scrambles up. Crowd oddly booing. Round ends with Markes controlling Simpson along the cage. MMAFrenzy scores a close round 10-9 Markes (19-19).
Round 3 – Wild combo from Simpson misses but it sets up a body lock. Simpson can’t use it though but the fighters separate. Good combos by both fighters here and Markes storms Simpson with an over/under clinch and is working strikes in the clinch against the cage. Axtell breaks it up and we’re centered. Body shot by Simpson lands. Jumping knee by Markes misses but he grabs an over/under clinch against the fence. Foot stomps by Markes with knees to the thigh being added in. Another separation by Axtell. Nice combo by Simpson. Simpson tries for a single but Markes defends very well. Impressive wrestling by Markes. Simpson goes for a takedown and eats a knee. Markes takes Simpson’s back in the standing position and eventually switches to a double leg takedown and gets it at the :21 mark. That takedown likely sealed a close round for the Brazilian. Stipe Miocic vs. Philip De Fries
Round 1 – Dan Miraglotta is our referee. Fighters touch gloves and De Fries is looking for a takedown on the NCAA All-American. Wild strikes from De Fries are missing. De Fries with a wicked left but Stipe lands a nasty counter right hook and knocks De Freis across the Octagon and into the cage. De Fries goes down and Stipe knocks him out cold with strikes. Ugly fight but entertaining.

T.J. Dillashaw vs. Walel Watson
Round 1 – Josh Rosenthal gets us started here. Dillashaw launches an insane superman punch to single leg combo that gets us started in a big way. Dillashaw switches to a double and slams Watson. Watson springs back to his feet but gets slammed again. Dillashaw landing shots in Watson’s guard. Watson tries to escape and Dillashaw takes his back and locks in a rear-naked choke. Watson fights out of though and Dillashaw is in side control. Watson gives up his back to escape and Dillashaw again goes for the choke. Watson survives but now Dillashaw has full mount. Watson tries to roll and Dillashaw goes for the choke yet again. He misses it and goes back to striking. Dillashaw is unloads on Watson for the remaining 15 seconds of the first round. Dominating round for Dillashaw. MMAFrenzy scores the round 10-8 Dillashaw.
Round 2 – Dillashaw again rushes but this time he doesn’t get the takedown and Watson taunts him from range. Turns out to be a mistake though as Dillashaw scores the takedown and an incredible scramble breaks out. Wow. Dillashaw finally ends up in Watson’s half-guard and begins blasting away with elbows and punches. Pace is slowing now as Watson is forced to cover up. Dillashaw fakes a half-nelson and uses that to pass to Watson’s back. Watson gives up mount but then gives up his back as Dillashaw unloads. Watson is getting crushed and rolls back to mount to get crushed some more and the gives up his back yet again. Dillashaw attempts another choke but Watson wisely tucks his chin to survive. More brutal strikes from Dillashaw in mount now. Again Watson gives up his back and Dillashaw drops more elbows and strikes. Utter domination from Dillashaw in that round. Round 3 – Watson with a flying knee to front kick combo that misses badly. Watson clearly knows he needs a finish here. Spinning kick from Watson misses badly. Dillashaw with another takedown he’s in side control. This time Watson is able to escape without much damage though. Brutal uppercut from Dillashaw lands and Watson with a nice counter. Takedown by Dillashaw but Watson goes for a triangle armbar. Dillashaw fights out and Watson goes for a heelhook. After a long struggle he’s forced to give it up and Dillashaw with more strikes in guard. Watson tries another armbar but misses badly and gives up his back. Another sub attempt from Dillashaw that he misses and goes back to strikes with ten seconds left. Wow, Dillashaw is unloading as the round ends. Brutal fight. Ivan Menjivar vs. John Albert
Round 1 – Jim Axtell is our referee for the opening bout. Both fighters are looking for big strikes early. Menjivar with a punch that’s countered by Albert and Albert with a clinch. Albert with some nice knees. Menjivar with the takedown after a spinning backfist. Albert transitions from an armbar to an omoplata but Menjivar defends and lands some hammer fists on the way out. Albert attempts an armbar but misses. Menjivar with a footlock and Albert counters with a heel hook. Fighters break and Albert on his feet. Albert with a great headkick that rocks Menjivar and Albert unloads on Menjivar with knees and punches. Menjivar scores a takedown and manages to work to Albert’s back where he lands some brutal ground and pound before sinking a fight ending rear-naked choke. Wow, what a round.
