Alistair Overeem Due in Court March 27 on Battery Charges

According to the Clark County Court website, number one UFC heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem is scheduled to appear in court later this month on one count of misdemeanor battery.

Overeem defeated former UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar in the main event of UFC 141 on December 30 of last year. Overeem was at the Wynn Las Vegas resort and casino the next day to ring in the New Year, where he allegedly “shoved a woman a woman in the face, causing her to stagger back.” The incident took place at around 3am on January 1st.

Judge Diana Sullivan will oversee the proceedings; Overeem’s trial will be a bench trial, where no jury is present and the verdict is to be rendered directly by the judge.

If convicted, Overeem faces up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

The former Strikeforce heavyweight champ is scheduled to challenge current UFC champ Junior dos Santos for his belt at UFC 146 on May 26 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
