Tony Ferguson faces further adjustments in training camp now that he’s moved on to his third prospective opponent for UFC on Fox 3.
Originally intended to face Dennis Hallman at the event, Ferguson has been preparing to take on Brazilian fighter Thiago Tavares since Hallman was forced to withdraw from the bout due to injury. Well, now Tavares has been injured and will be replaced by Michael Johnson.
A runner-up on the twelfth season of The Ultimate Fighter, Michael “The Menace” Johnson (10-6) has gone 2-2 in the UFC since debuting at the TUF 12 Finale in 2010. The Blackzilian team member has balanced out a unanimous decision defeat to Jonathan Brookins and a submission loss to Paul Sass with a TKO of Eddie Faaloloto and a unanimous decision over Shane Roller. He most recently appeared in action at UFC on Fox 2, earning the win over Roller.
Winner of The Ultimate Fighter 13, Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson (13-3) has gone undefeated in his three-fight run in the Octagon. The 28-year-old ran through Ramsey Nijem and Aaron Riley before taking a unanimous decision over Yves Edwards this past December at the TUF 14 Finale. He is unbeaten in six straight fights.
UFC on Fox 3 will take place at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey on May 5.
