At one of the biggest events of the year, several unheralded fighters earned bonuses on the night, as Ben Rothwell, Travis Browne, Eddie Yagin, and Mark Hominick all earned an extra $65,000 for their efforts in Atlanta at UFC 145.
Rothwell earned the bonus for “Knockout of the Night” after knocking out Brendan Schaub in the first round. Rothwell was on his heels after Schaub clipped him, but Rothwell hit Schaub with a left hook, knocking out “The Hybrid” immediately.
Browne earned his first UFC submission, notching a first round arm triangle on Chad Griggs, who was making his UFC debut. “Hapa” wobbled Griggs with a huge knee, and eventually got Griggs down to the ground. From there, Browne was able to lock in the arm triangle, earning the win and “Submission of the Night”.
The “Fight of the Night” bonus went to featherweights Mark Hominick and Eddie Yagin, thanks in part to their three round slugfest. Yagin was able to eek out the split-decision win over the former title contender, handing “The Machine” his third consecutive loss. However, Hominick has earned two “Fight of the Night” bonuses in three of those losses.
