According to a report by Sherdog.com, Bulgarian heavyweight fighter Blagoi Ivanov has been released from Pirogov Hospital after several months of intensive care due to a stabbing incident.
This past February at a bar in Bulgaria, Ivanov and his party were assaulted by eight men; during the fracas, Ivanov was stabbed under the armpit and into the heart. Since then, the 25-year-oldhas been clinging to life, with his recovery uncertain.
Apparently, over the past ten days, Ivanov has made a stunning recovery and has been discharged from the hospital. He will still need to undergo treatment for the devastating injury, but only outpatient.
Prior to being hospitalized, the undefeated fighter had made his way into the Bellator season five semi-finals with two impressive finishes, but was forced out of the tournament with an injury. In his last fight, which took place in December of 2011 in Russia, Ivanov earned a TKO over Ricco Rodriguez.
After his long recovery, Ivanov intends to return to fighting.
