The UFC summer event carousel continues as an injury to Michael Bisping has forced him off. Now it appears that former UFC headliner Hector Lombard will be moving onto the very card one of his replacements vacated. The former Bellator middleweight champion will now fill in for Bisping against rising middleweight contender Tim Boetsch. UFC officials announced the injury and new matchup today.
Hector Lombard was originally set to face off in the UFC on Fox 4 main event against Brian Stann before an injury sidelined Stann. Lombard was then shifted to the Calgary event as Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Brandon Vera were shifted to his former slot.
Tim Boetsch will be looking to stay undefeated since dropping to middleweight when he faces Lombard. Boetsch picked up a huge come from behind victory over former number one contender Yushin Okami at UFC 144.
UFC 149 takes place July 21 live from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta. The event will be headlined by a featherweight title bout between champion Jose Aldo and Erik Koch.
