UFC 148 Preliminary Recap: Guillard, Nurmagomedov, Philippou, Roller, and Oliveira Grab Wins

The prelims of the year’s most-anticipated UFC fight card provided plenty of MMA action to kick off the night. While there were no finishes, the main card is primary focus this evening. Melvin Guillard, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Costa Philippou, Shane Roller, and Rafaello Oliveira all notched wins on the undercard.

Guillard tops Camoes

After surviving a bad situation in the final minute of the first round, Melvin Gulliard cruised to a unanimous decision victory over Fabricio Camoes. Guillard snapped a two-fight losing streak with the victory and Camoes falls to 1-1 in the UFC.

Nurmagomedov Edges Tibau in Close Decision

It was a lot closer than the scorecards showed but Khabib Nurmagomedov stayed perfect in his MMA career with a over Gleison Tibau. While Tibau seemed to be far ahead if you were listening to commentators Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg, Khabib was constantly attacking in the fight and did just enough to get the nod.

Philippou Outpoints Fukuda

Costa Philippou improved to 4-1 in the octagon as he defeated Riki Fukuda. Philippou had to overcome several inadvertent fouls en route to the win, including a nasty eye poke that nearly ended the fight. Fukuda drops to 1-2 in the Octagon but with one of those losses being a highly controversial loss to Nick Ring, he is likely not in danger of being cut.

Roller Edges Alessio

Shane Roller overcame a knockdown at the end of the first round to utilize his wrestling to frustrate longtime MMA veteran John Alessio. Roller stopped a three-fight skid with the win and the Oklahoma State product improved to 2-3 in the UFC.

Oliveira Controls Izquierdo

Rafaello Oliveira came into this bout needing a win in a bad way and he got it over Cuban Yoislandy Izquierdo to kick off the card. While being out-classed in the stand up, Oliveira controlled the bout when he secured the takedowns in Rounds 2 and 3. Oliveira was constantly attacking from the top position over a very game Izquierdo and it was enough to give him the nod from the judges.
