Brazilian Heavyweight Gabriel Gonzaga has been pegged to welcome welcome Geronimo Dos Santos to the octagon as the heavyweight mainstay returns to his home country for UFC 153, which takes place at the HSBC Arena in Rio De Janeiro on October 13.
Gonzaga (13-6) returned to the UFC last January after a year-long retirement. “Napao” took one fight outside of the promotion in that time, coming out of retirement to face Parker Porter at Reality Fighting in October. The former title challenger then returned to the octagon to take part in the promotion’s second offering in Brazil, defeating Ednaldo Oliveira with a first round rear-naked choke.
Dos Santos (31-14) makes his promotional debut in his home country, where he currently rides a ten-fight win-streak with nine victories coming by way of stoppage. “Mondragon” is a mainstay in the Brazilian heavyweight circuit, largely competing in his homeland since debuting in 2006, the veteran holds victories over UFC veterans Antonio Mendes and Assuerio Silva.
