It seems the dreaded injury bug has made it’s way to the giant Bellator cage for their 73rd installment. After news broke yesterday that BFC Featherweight Champion Pat Curran sustained a broken orbital bone, nixing his first title defense against Patricio “Pitbull” at the event, it was revealed today that highly touted capoeira stylist Marcus “Lelo” Aurelio has been forced to pull out of his promotional debut after suffering an undisclosed injury. Kevin Tiller now steps in to face Amaechi Oselukwue on nine days notice.
Amaechi Oselukwue (3-6) is 1-5 in his last six fights, with his most recent win coming in the XFC cage with a knockout victory over Gerardo Julio Gallegos. Kevin Tiller (4-1) is undefeated since losing his career debut, “The Mama’s Boy” is coming off of a technical submission win over Jermiah Riggs at Bellator 70. Given the short notice, the two will now meet at a catchweight of 179 lb.
Bellator 73 takes place at the Harrah’s Tunica Hotel and Casino in Mississippi on August 24. The main event is still yet to be determined given Curran’s injury, but Patricio “Pitbull” has agreed to stay on the bill and face whatever replacement may come.
