The UFC’s already stacked “UFC on Fox 5” card just added two explosive matches to the Seattle card. Heavyweights Lavar Johnson and Brendan Schaub will square off in a hard hitting matchup, while Matt Brown and Mike Swick will go to war at welterweight. The UFC announced the move Monday evening.
Lavar Johnson will be looking to bounce back from his first UFC loss – a gruesome submission loss to Stefan Struve at UFC 146 – when he faces the former NCAA football standout. Schaub will be looking end a two-fight skid against Johnson. Schaub had been on a four-fight winning streak before stunning losses to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Ben Rothwell. The Colorado State prospect looked good in both losses before getting caught while trying to finish.
Matt Brown will look to end Mike Swick’s momentum when they face off at the Key Arena. Brown has won his last three fights in typical “crude but effective” fashion. Swick recovered from a rocky start against Demarques Johnson at “UFC on Fox 4” to score a devastating knock out victory after a long injury-induced layoff.
“UFC on Fox 5” will take place December 8. The four-fight main card will be headlined by a UFC lightweight title fight between champion Benson Henderson and Nate Diaz. The card will likely announce its fourth fight for the main card in the coming weeks.
