Despite Asian MMA promotion ONE FC switching to the old PRIDE rules when it comes to soccer kicks, there will still be one last victim of the old rules. ONE FC has announced that Shannon Wiractchai’s TKO victory against Mitch Chilsonwill be overturned to a “no contest” due to an illegal soccer kick. The promotion announced the news Monday over twitter.
Wiratchai’s victory is the second bout to fall victim to the promotion’s old rules regarding soccer kicks, with the first being Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia’s fourth fight. The promotion has always allowed the kicks but, until Monday, the referee had to signal the kicks were legal.
The idea behind the rule was to allow the downed fighter a chance to get out of a dangerous position before the kicks began. Unfortunately, the rule just was not practical with the pacing of the fights. Rather than scrap the kicks, soccer kicks will now be allowed without having to wait on the referee.
