After the year of ups and downs Antonio Banuelos experienced in 2011, the WEC veteran has opted to try his luck at 125 lbs. Banuelos will make his flyweight debut at Legacy FC 14 against Joshua Sampos this weekend in Houston, and is now also slated to compete at the promotion’s 16th offering at the Allen Events Center in Allen, Texas on December 14 as he meets Ryan Benoit.
Banuelos (20-8) looks to rebound from a loss to Bibiano Fernandes in the finals of the DREAM Bantamweight Grand Prix Finals. The loss snapped a two-fight win-streak which consisted of victories over Hideo Tokoro and Masakazu Imanari. Banuelos’ tournament run came behind his UFC release in his sole promotional bout, seeing him bounced from the company with a 7-4 record under the Zuffa banner. The Pit Fight Team product now looks to begin with a clean state and make it back to the UFC in the newly assembled flyweight division.
