[UPDATE – 18:36]Brazilian site UOL Esporte has quoted the champion as saying that “I do not know anything about that. I’m fine, I just train, ” when asked if his recent motorcycle crash had affected his training Aldo stated, “No, I’m training normal. For me there was nothing spoken. Even on one leg I would fight.” [UPDATE]
Literally one hour after Quinton Jackson dropped out of the UFC 153 co-main event against Glover Teixeira, Dana White again took to twitter to announce that UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is also out of the event with a foot injury suffered from his recent motorcycle accident.
To say that UFC 153 has taken some heavy losses today would be an understatement as the card now approaches UFC 149 territory.
Aldo was originally slated to face Erik Koch on the night, who pulled out of the bout due to injury. Former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar then stepped up to face the Brazilian on his home turf. It is now the champion, who has not competed since January, who has been forced off of the bill.
As it stands, UFC 153 now has open slots in both the evening’s headlining bouts, with the the two biggest draws on the card forced onto the shelf.
