Welterweight DaMarques Johnson has been cut by the UFC following “UFC on FUEL TV 5.” Johnson lost to Gunnar Nelson on the Nottingham card in decisive fashion and missed weight by eight pounds. Johnson announced the news via twitter.
Johnson was a finalist on “The Ultimate Fighter 9,” losing to the now retired James Wilkes, and held a 4-6 record in his UFC tenure. The record was a bit deceptive however, as Johnson was always a tough draw for whoever had to fight him. “Darkness” lost his last three bouts including a devastating knockout loss to Mike Swick at “UFC on Fox 4” only six weeks before his bout with Nelson.
Johnson will now have several options available on the road back to the Octagon.
