UFC lightweight Jeremy Stephens remains in custody of the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office but now has bail set at $100,000. Stephens is also facing extradition to Des Moines, Iowa for a 2011 assault charge. Stephens will be in court October 23 for the charge according to county records.
The Iowa native stands accused of assault in relation to 2011 incident at a homecoming party in Des Moines. Stephens’s management and UFC President Dana White have stood firm in their support of the embattled fighter, insisting that Stephens is wrongly accused and is being mistreated by the Des Moines authorities.
Stephens was arrested Friday morning after the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an outstanding warrant against the fighter. Stephens was originally set to face Yves Edwards before his arrest. White believed he could get Stephens out to face Edwards but was unable to reach an agreement with the authorities in Iowa.
