It appears that the speculation about Strikeforce canceling yet another card was correct as Strikeforce has pulled the plug on their Oklahoma City card following key injuries to three members of the promotion’s November 3 fightcard. The promotion will remain alive however, though there will be no more shows in 2012. Strikeforce announced the news moments ago via press release.
The promotion’s longtime CEO Scott Coker released a statement regarding the event’s cancelation, stating that, “Due to a series of injuries, we were forced to cancel the upcoming card on Nov. 3, but are already working to put together a stacked card in January.”
This is the second straight event that Strikeforce has been forced to cancel this year after canceling “Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy” last month. The promotion has only put on five shows this year after putting on sixteen last year. The once proud promotion has floundered ever since UFC parent company Zuffa LLC. bought a majority share in the promotion last year.
There is currently no word yet on where the January 2013 card will be held or if it means that the promotion’s broadcast partner, Showtime, has picked up the 2013 option for the full year or one card. Stay tuned to MMAFrenzy as we receive more information regarding this developing story.
