Last night following UFC 153’s fight card UFC President Dana White spoke with Ariel Helwani regarding the future of suspended heavyweight Alistair Overeem. White told the MMAFighting reporter that Overeem will likely face the winner of UFC 155’s main event between Cain Velasquez and UFC heavyweight champion in the spring of 2013.
Helwani asked White about the possible matchup Saturday night, the UFC President responded:
“Yes, that’s what we’re thinking,” White said, “We’ll see how this thing plays out and what happens. Nothing is done. Nothing is etched in stone, but that’s what I’d like to see happen.”
Overeem was denied a license by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after having a 14:1 T/E ratio prior to UFC 146. Overeem was denied a license following a hearing by the commission in regards to the test. Overeem cannot be licensed to fight until December 27, 2012 due to the denial but should not have an issue getting licensed when that date comes.
