Despite a multitude of rumors flying around about Forrest Griffin’s ultimate UFC 155 fate after Chael Sonnen departed the card to coach TUF 17. It appears that Griffin will face former Penn State standout Phil Davis at UFC 155. The bout will likely serve as the co-main event of the evening. The UFC announced the move earlier today.
Davis is fresh off a win over Wagner Prado at UFC 153. Davis absolutely dominated Prado in a rematch of their UFC on Fox 4 debacle, which saw the bout end due to an accidental eyepoke. Davis will look to build on his impressive UFC 153 performance against the veteran Griffin.
Griffin last fought at UFC 148, where he defeated Tito Ortiz by decision. Griffin was expecting to face Sonnen in a rematch of a bout that Griffin won via submission. Both Stephan Bonnar and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira were possible replacements for the UFC 155 bout before Davis was selected.
UFC 155 will take place December 29 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between champion Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez. The fight card will also feature a middleweight bout between Tim Boetsch and Chris Weidman.
