Although DREAM is all but dead, the Japanese MMA promotion will hold a press conference this coming Thursday, where they are expected to announce a New Year’s Eve event. Due to the parent company of the promotion, FEG, declaring bankruptcy earlier this year, it is unclear as to who will be digging into their pockets to make the show happen.
Scheduled to be in attendance are DREAM featherweight champion Hiroyuki Takaya, Tatsuya Kawajiri, and Satoru Kitaoka, who are likely to be a part of the event. While there is no major promotion in Japan at this moment, A New Year’s Eve MMA show has been a tradition since 2003.
Following the death of PRIDE in 2007, Yarrenoka took place on New Year’s Eve of that year, featuring former PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko, Shinya Aoki, and a myriad of other Japanese talent loaned from Shooto, DEEP, and various other organizations, which is likely to be the case this time around as well.
