Bellator Fighting Championships has removed two of their bigger entries on next week’s Bellator 79 fight card due to separate issues. Bellator bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas was removed from his bout with teammate and Season 6 Bantamweight Tournament champion Marcos Galvao due to concussion related issues. Former Strikeforce and UFC fighter Paul Daley was removed from the card due to visa issues. The promotion announced the move earlier today.
Dantas’ removal was no surprise as rumors of the move were spread last week after champ was reportedly still having effects related to a concussion. Dantas experienced a concussion in an out of promotion loss to Tyson Nam late in August. The Bellator bantamweight champion is now expected to meet Galvao in early-2013.
Dynamic striker Paul Daley wanted to stay active in 2012 but visa issues will prevent him from making his second fight in Bellator this year. Daley had been scheduled to take on Kyle Baker next week in Canada but visa issues arose recently and Bellator made the decision to remove him from the card. Daley will also return in early-2013.
