After the UFC’s Chinese debut, which emanated from the Cotai Arena in Macau, four men on the bill find themselves winning $40,000 as Cung Le, Thiago Silva, Takanori Gomi and Mac Danzig took home the evening’s fight night bonuses.
Cung Le planted the flag in his UFC run with a vicious first round knockout over Rich Franklin. The sanshou specialist came out differently and really sat down on his strikes. As the former middleweight champion threw a leg kick, The South Vietnamese fighter launched into a vicious, Tyson-esque right hook that sent “Ace” face down on that mat in a crumbled heap, winning him the “Knockout of The Night”.
Thiago Silva took “Submission of The Night” after a come from behind arm triangle in the final stanza. In the second period, the Blackzilian found himself floored behind a giant overhand right from the Bulgarian. Silva came out like a man possessed in the final frame, and after taking down Nedkov and moving to mount, he secured an arm triangle and forced his opponent to tap.
In a rollicking, wildly entertaining fight, Takanori Gomi and Mac Danzig traded rounds in the opening periods. It was the former PRIDE champion, however, that would turn up the heat in the final stanza. Gomi would outpoint the TUF winner and have his hand raised in a split decision win (29-28, 29-28, 28-29).
