UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva is once again making headlines with his latest comments. It would seem that the proposed super fight with welterweight titleholder Georges St-Pierre, which “The Spider” seems hell-bent on making, will have to wait as the Brazilian recently told Tatame that he plans on sitting out until the end of 2013.
Silva, who defended his middleweight title just once this year, told Tatame, “I have projects, personal plans and I’ll keep progressing them.” Anderson is slated to star alongside sensei Steven Seagal in his next film, which will ostensibly also feature Lyoto Machida. The Brazilian is also in the process of opening his own gym in Los Angeles.
The UFC planned on putting St-Pierre vs Silva together, assuming the champion gets by Carlos Condit this coming weekend, in what would have been the promotion’s first trip to Cowboys Stadium in Dallas. If Silva does keep his word, it would essentially put the kibosh on that idea as well as furthering the current logjam in the middleweight division.
