The UFC is eying a second woman for their new 135 lb. division. It will ostensibly be a fellow Olympian keeping newly crowned champion Ronda Rousey company as Sara McMann has revealed over twitter that a deal with the promotion is “in the works”.
McMann (6-0), a 2004 Olympic silver medalist in freestyle wrestling, is undefeated in her young MMA career, most recently taking a unanimous decision victory over perennial women’s bantamweight Shayna Baszler. The Olympian was scheduled to meet Liz Carmouche at Strikeforce: “Cormier vs. Mir,” but the ill-fated event was unfortunately canceled.
McMann has been an expected opponent for Ronda Rousey for some time now. While no deal has been finalized for McMann, “Rowdy” is expected to make her UFC debut in the early stages of 2013, but has yet to have an opponent formally announced.
