Baroni (15-15), recently snapped a two-fight skid with a vicious soccer kick knockout victory over Rodrigo Ribeiro at One FC 5 in August. “The New York Badass” was previously slated to meet with Pancrase welterweight champion Takenaroi Sato at Glory 4, but has opted to move to the New Year’s Event, which is traditionally the biggest fight night in Japan.
Sakurai (36-12) has been somewhat inactive over recent years, fighting only three times since the start of 2010. “Mach” last competed at last year’s DREAM NYE event, taking a unanimous decision over Ryo Chonan, snapping a four-fight fall from grace.
Baroni and Sakurai join such fighters as Tatsuya Kawajiri, Hiroyuki Takaya, Satoru Kitaoka, and Shinya Aoki on the evening’s billing. Also slated take place at the Saitama Super Arena on December 31 is the Glory Grand Slam Tournament, which features the likes of heavyweight kickboxers like Semmy Schilt, Remy Bonjasky, and Daniel Ghita.
