Newly signed UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will face Liz Carmouche in Anaheim. The bout will serve as the first UFC women’s fight and also serve as the evening’s main event. The bout was announced at the end of the UFC on Fox 5 press conference just moments ago.
Rousey shot to the top of the women’s division last year with wins over former Strikeforce bantamweight champions Miesha Tate and Sarah Kaufman. The former Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion was signed last month as the promotion is expected to fold.
The Olympian’s opponent will be none other than Strikeforce and Invicta FC standout Liz Carmouche. The proud USMC veteran and LGBT rights supporter has won her last two fights in impressive fashion. Carmouche once challenged for the Strikeforce women’s bantamweight crown against then-champion Marloes Coenen, the Marine dominated the first two rounds of the fight before being trapped in a triangle choke.
UFC 157 will take place February 23 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The billing will have former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida taking on former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson in the evenings co-main event.
