Today, Bellator Fighting Championships held a teleconference in which they announced a big change to their schedule upon moving to Spike TV in 2013. Beginning on January 17, the promotion will move to Thursday nights, where it will follow TNA Impact at 10 PM.
Bellator originally ran their shows on Thursdays when they got into the promotional game, but as Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney states, “We’ve never really planted our flag in one given day. We moved to Fridays because that’s where MTV 2 wanted to put us.” According to Spike TV President Kevin Kay, although the event will air live following TNA Impact, replays will be aired on Friday or Saturday nights, depending on the quality of fights.
Rebney also used the time to announce that there will be five tournaments taking place over the season. Season 8 will be home to tournaments in the featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, and light heavyweight divisions.
