Former UFC middleweight title contender Patrick Côté is dropping to welterweight for his next bout. “The Predator” was due to rematch Alessio Sakara at UFC 158 prior to the Italian fighter having to pull out of the card. Côté is still hoping to remain on the Montreal card. The French-Canadian fighter announced the move on twitter.
Côté was last in action at UFC 154, facing off with Sakara. The Italian fighter rocked “The Predator” multiple times in the opening frame that forced Côté into a scramble. In the haste of trying to end the bout, Sakara landed multiple shots to the ear and back of the head. Several of the shots were later deemed illegal and Sakara was disqualified, giving Côté his first win since returning to the UFC at UFC 148.
UFC 158 is scheduled for March 18 and will likely take place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The bout will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz, with Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit co-headlining the card.
