Eddie Alvarez Frustrated After Bellator Matches UFC’s Offer

Eddie AlvarezFormer Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez is frustrated with his current contract situation. The free agent lightweight is currently stuck between the UFC and Bellator after the latter matched the UFC’s bid to sign the fighter. Alvarez voiced his frustration via twitter.

Alvarez is stuck due to Bellator’s right to match any offer made by the UFC for a certain time period. Alvarez was allegedly offered what some refer to as a “poison pill” contract, meaning the side offering the contract can easily pay the deal but the other side would take a considerable loss by matching the deal.

The UFC offered the same type of deal to former Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard. While Bellator relented in that situation, their new deal with Viacom has lead to an increase in available funds for the promotion as they move over to Spike TV.
