Joey Beltran and Rousimar Palhares have been suspended for nine months due to positive drug tests following their December bouts in Australia. The UFC’s VP of Regulatory Affairs, Marc Ratner, handled the administration of testing and suspensions in lieu of an athletic commission. The duo’s suspensions were announced by the promotion earlier this evening.
Joey Beltran was suspended for testing positive for nandrolone, an anabolic steroid, and his victory over Igor Pokrajac has been overturned to a no contest. The win would have been his first UFC victory since UFC 131.
Middleweight Rousimar Palhares tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone following his UFC on FX 6 loss to Hector Lombard. The loss was the second straight for the leglock master.
Both fighters suspensions are retroactive to December 15 and will last a period of nine months. Upon completion of their suspensions both fighters will be subjected to drug tests before they are allowed to compete again.
