Barboza Crushes Martins
Edson Barboza’s speed was simply too much for Lucas Martins in their bout tonight. Barboza was deadly accurate and wicked fast when he stepped into the cage. Martins would try to hang in there, but would get caught stepping and was dropped by a jab from Barboza that took the legs out from the formerly undefeated fighter. Barboza quickly pounced and Martins would submit due to strikes shortly after.
Alcantara vs. Nobre Ruled “No Contest”
Yuri Alcantara appeared to be well on his way to matching his brother’s impressive performance tonight as he dominated opponent Pedro Nobre. Alcantara nearly shredded his opponent’s arm and shoulder with a wicked Kimura attempt. Nobre survived but gave up his back, and controversy soon followed. Alcantara started teeing off from back mount and was warned for an elbow to the back of the head (replay showed it was legal) and the Brazilian continued attacking with shots that were technically legal since they were close to the ear. Referee Dan Miraglotta disagreed however, and stopped the bout for the foul. Nobre then appeared to embellish the moment however, and the ringside physician was forced to call a halt to the bout after Nobre said he could not continue.
Ildemar Alcantara vs. Wagner Prado
Ildemar Alcantara came into the fight on a mere two weeks notice, and was fighting over his usual weight class, but that did not stop him from defeating Wagner Prado. Alcantara had some issues with the strikes of Prado in the first but got the fight to the mat in the second. After missing a D’arce choke, Alcantara looked to be in trouble as Prado looked to unload on the ground. Alcantara kept attacking however and rolled to a kneebar. Prado’s weak defense gave Alcantara plenty of time to finally adjust and finish the submission to start of the Alcantara brothers’ night off in the win column.
Trinaldo Dominates Keith
Francisco Trinaldo completely dominated C.J. Keith to kick off our UFC on FX 7 undercard. It did not matter where the bout landed, as the native Brazilian controlled every aspect of the fight. Trinaldo punctuated things with some beautiful takedowns in the first and a suplex in the second that led to the finish. Trinaldo would launch directly from the suplex finish to an arm-triangle that forced Keith to yield.
