Gurgel made a successful return from knee surgery this past October before being defeated by Jessica Eye this past December at Bellator 83. While she was the first Bellator strawweight champion, injuries and scheduling conflicts have prevented her from ever defending her belt after defeating the legendary WMMA fighter Megumi Fujii.
Gurgel has since found a home competing at flyweight, where the weight cut is far less strenuous on her body. Gurgel now joins her sister, Stephanie Frausto, with the pioneering women’s company.
