The UFC has reportedly added a middleweight matchup to their May trip to Brazil. Middleweights Constantios Philippou and Ronaldo “Jacaré” Souza have reportedly agree to face each other in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil. MMAFighting first reported the matchup with Tatame first reporting the location.
“Jacaré” has won three straight bouts since losing the title to Luke Rockhold in 2011. The Brazilian destroyed UFC veteran Ed Herman at “Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine” this past January. His opponent, Costa Philippou, is one of the fastest rising middleweights in MMA, having won his last five.
Philippou was last in action at UFC 155, where he stopped middleweight contender Tim Boetsch on short notice. Costa took the bout on short notice after his teammate, Chris Weidman, was forced out of the fight with a shoulder injury.
The event, likely to be UFC on FX 8, will be headlined by another middleweight scrap between former Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold and Vitor Belfort. The event will take place at Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil.
