A welterweight bout between two former Strikeforce fighters is being targeted for this June. Jake Shields and Tyron Woodley are on tap for a June 15 event in Canada. MMAJunkie reported the prospective matchup Wednesday.
Former Strikeforce champion Jake Shields is returning to the welterweight division coming off a no contest due to a failed drug test in his return to the middleweight division. The former UFC contender will likely be fighting for his job when he faces Woodley.
Woodley rebounded from the first loss of his career with a dominant victory of Jay Hieron at UFC 156. Woodley was hoping to land on the upcoming UFC 158 fight card, but will instead wait until June for his next bout.
The event is likely to be dubbed UFC 161 and will take place at an undisclosed location in Canada this June.
