The Bellator Season 8 Lightweight Semifinals took place at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. The tournament finals are set as we will now see Saad Awad and Dave Rickels in what is a nearly guaranteed to be a slugfest.
It was not with a whimper, but with a bang that Saad Awad advanced to the Bellator Season 8 Tournament Finals. It took just 43 seconds for the Millennia MMA product to have his hand raised. It was a flurry of uppercuts that would put Will Brooks on his on the edge, but it was the ensuing barrage of punches that would push the highly touted prospect over. Awad has now advanced to the final round in a combined time of 73 seconds.
Dave Rickels and Jason Fischer kicked off right where they left off this past November. While the bout started off competitively, it was clear “The Caveman” was pulling ahead the longer the fight went on, while the Detroit native looked to be gassing. By the final stanza, the former welterweight was cruising to victory. One takedown in the third round was all Rickels needed. The Janjira Muay Thai fighter would spend the duration of the final stanza in control, working for submissions and chipping away with strikes. At the final bell, Rickels would have his hand raised with a unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).
