Tavares Victorious Over Fukuda
In tonight’s final preliminary bout, Brad Tavares picked up a hard-fought decision over Riki Fukuda. Tavares would recover from some early trouble to pick up the unanimous decision. Fukuda never stopped moving forward in the bout despite being limited by an injured left hand. Tavares has now won three straight fights in the Octagon.
Mizugaki Secures Emotional Win Over Caraway
In another great fight, Japan’s Takeya Mizugaki secured an emotional victory over Bryan Caraway in Saitama Super Arena. Carraway’s corner made a crucial mistake in the bout heading into the third round. The rounds were very close but Carraway’s corner told the fighter he was comfortably in the lead headed to the third. Mizugaki went into full attack mode in the third and nearly knocked out Carraway. While Carraway would recover, the damage was done as the judges rendered a split decision for Mizugaki. the win was Mizugaki’s first UFC win in Japan and the fighter was clearly overcome with emotion when the judges rendered their verdict.
Tokudome Tops Marcello
Both Cristiano Marcello and newcomer Kazuki Tokudome were ready for war tonight in Saitama. The two engaged in a bout that frequently alternated between frenetic brawl, and technical ground battle. Marcello nearly finished the bout early on the round but Tokudome refused to go away. Tokudome would nearly finish the bout in third but Marcello showed the same heart that Tokudome and kept attacking until the final horn. Tokudome is now 1-0 in the UFC and has won seven of his last eight.
