Hunt Crushes Struve’s Jaw
Mark Hunt came into this fight the underdog but would not let it deter him as he took on Stefan Struve. In a crazy back-and-forth fight, Hunt showed an improving ground game by evading the dangerous submission attack of Struve. In the third round, Hunt would land a right hook that sent Struve reeling before landing a massive left to the jaw of Struve.
Herb Dean would give Struve a chance to recover even though Hunt thought the fight was over, but Dean stepped in when Struve did not respond. Struve reportedly told members of the press that his jaw was broken on that final punch while he was on the way to the back.
Sanchez Lands Split Decision Over Gomi
Diego Sanchez made it a successful return to the lightweight division with a split decision victory over Takanori Gomi on the fighter’s home turf. Gomi did a fantastic job of establishing his striking game and stopped Diego’s takedowns after the opening frame. Despite this, Sanchez was able to get the nod, preventing Gomi from netting his third straight win in the Octagon.
