As the UFC headed to the Saitama Super Arena for a second time, it was a good night for the Pride veterans who anchored the bill as Mark Hunt and Wanderlei Silva both won in impressive fashion, earning themselves bonuses. Brian Stann also finds himself taking home some extra money for his fight with Silva.
The battle between Wanderlei Silva and Brian Stann turned out to be an early contender for “Fight of the Year”. The all out brawl saw both men hurt on multiple occasions, but it was “The Ax Murderer” that put nail to pine with a brutal two-punch combination followed by vicious ground and pound to leave the Marine unconscious. The beloved Brazilian took home a “Knockout of The Night” and “Fight of The Night” bonuses totaling $100k, Stann received $50k for his efforts.
As there was no submission on the card, Mark Hunt was also awarded “Knockout of The Night” honors for his jawbreaking, walk-off knockout of Stefan Struve. A crushing left hook from “The Super Samoan” sent the massive Dutchman down for the count as Hunt walked off with swagger, taking home $50k.
