Despite some earlier reports to the contrary, Mark Hunt will face Junior dos Santos at UFC 160. The two will square off in the co-main event of the May PPV. MMAFighting first reported the matchup.
Hunt requested the bout following Alistair Overeem’s quadriceps injury. Hunt most recently defeated Stefan Struve in devastating fashion at UFC on FUEL TV 8, splitting the Dutchman’s jaw bone en route to a TKO. The “Super Samoan” has now won four fights in a row since dropping his UFC debut.
UFC president Dana White originally stated that Hunt turned down the bout, however that was something Hunt denied. The two spoke again soon after White’s comments and the bout was setup.
The bout will be Junior dos Santos’s first bout since being dominated by Cain Velasquez at UFC 155 this past December.
UFC 160 takes place May 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight card will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between champion Cain Velasquez and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. The bout between Dos Santos and Hunt will co-headline the Memorial Day weekend card.
