A pair of finals will headline Bellator’s return to USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida on March 28. Bellator 94 is anchored by the Season 8 Light Heavyweight and Lightweight Tournament Finals, which will see Mikhail Zayats meet Emanuel Newton, while Saad Awad clashes with Dave Rickels, respectively.
Zayats (21-6) comes into the bout with two devastating first round finishes. The Russian underdog knocked out UFC veteran Renato ‘Babalu’ Sobral in the quarterfinals, and went on to submit Jacob Noe with a beautiful armbar in semifinals. Newton (20-7) made his way to the finals with two stoppages of his own, including one career-making performance. “The Hardcore Kid” took a second round submission over Atanas Djambazov in the quarterfinals, then went on to score an “Upset of The Year” caliber knockout over odds-on favorite to win the light heavyweight tournament, “King Mo” Lawal.
Awad (14-4) has left a trail of bodies in his wake in the lightweight tournament. The Millennia MMA product needed just 74 seconds to advance to the finals, knocking out Guillaume DeLorenzi and highly favored prospect Will Brooks. Rickels (13-1) has fought tooth and nail to make it to the finals, taking hard-earned unanimous decision victories over Lloyd Woodard and Jason Fischer.
