A lightweight bout between Kurt Pellegrino and Thiago Tavares has been added to the undercard of UFC 88 on September 6th in Atlanta.
The bout was recently announced by the promotion along with three additional preliminary bouts: Ryo Chonan vs. Roan Carneiro, Dong Hyun Kim vs. Matt Brown, and Tim Boetsch vs. James Lee.
Pellegrino (11-4) made his octagon debut at UFC 61 in a loss to Drew Fickett but bounced back with back-to-back UFC wins over Junior Assuncao and Nate Mohr. Following a loss to Joe Stevenson, Pellegrino posted a TKO win over Alberto Crane but was dealt another setback in his latest fight, a second-round submission loss to Nate Diaz.
Tavares (15-2) won 13 straight bouts to open his MMA career including back-to-back wins over Naoyuki Kotani and Jason Black in the UFC. After suffering the first loss of his career at UFC 76 to Tyson Griffin, Tavares defeated Michihiro Omigawa at UFC Fight Night 12. In the “Fight of the Night”, Tavares was defeated in his last bout by Matt Wiman via second-round knockout at UFC 85 in June.
