Post-UFC 71 Press Coference News

  • Sellout attendance of 14,728 people
  • Live gate of $4.3 million which is the second biggest UFC live gate ever behind UFC 66: Liddell vs. Ortiz II
  • Over 3,000 people attended the weigh-ins.
  • Dan Henderson chose to fight as a light heavyweight in the UFC.
  • Dana White contradicted Henderson in saying that Rampage and Henderson will both have their titles on the line in their fight this fall.
  • When asked about unifying the Pride and UFC titles Dana wasn’t sure on how they were going to handle the title situation but did say they had to respect title holders of the organization.
  • Chuck Liddell confirmed he will continue fighting saying he would be ready to fight as soon as his suspension is up.
  • SI choose Roger Huerta for the cover of their magazine. Dana praised the decision saying Huerta is a superstar.
  • White stated Liddell would likely face Wanderlei Silva in his next fight (more on that fight here).

  • Rampage and Dana agreed the Mayweather vs. De La Hoya bout “sucked”
  • Houston Alexander sounded confident of his win over Keith Jardine praising his training staff in helping him prepare.
  • Karo Parisyan attempted to mimic “Borat” with his song after his win. He also requested a title shot to which Dana seemed open to, although he will have to wait until after “Matt and Matt” after season 6 of The Ultimate Fighter essentially putting the division on hold.
  • Although Tito is still considered a top contender for a title shot Dana indicated he would have to win another fight before he would be given a title shot.
  • Tito’s opponent at UFC 73, Rashad Evans, would also be a top contender with a win but Dana seemed to imply neither would get a light heavyweight title shot with a win.
  • White stated that all of the top talent would be coming to the UFC and that they are currently in talks with Pride Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko.
  • Among potential UFC locations are Montreal, New York, Chicago, and Hawaii.
