After his win over Sam Stout on Tuesday, Spencer Fisher said he would likely be fighting The Ultimate Fighter 5 castmember Joe Lauzon in his next fight. Lauzon is still in the competition fighting tonight on the semifinal episodes before competing on June 23rd in either the finals or a runner-up bout on the TUF 5 finale.
In the past few weeks both fighters have called one another out adding an extra storyline for a future fight. Fisher beat Lauzon’s brother Dan at UFC 64 in October of last year with a first round TKO. Joe Lauzon won his UFC debut over Fishers friend and training partner Jens Pulver at UFC 63.
With the losses against close friends and family members this fight has a great storyline. Not only that but the fight could easily happen later this year with both fighters fighting less than 2 weeks apart (Fisher at Fight Night 10, Lauzon at the TUF 5 Finale) both will have ample time to prepare for a fight later this year.
Look for this fight to headline a UFC Fight Night event later this year if an when it happens. A fight like this is what the UFC needs: two marketable names, two above-average fighters, and a storyline that could have only been set up better in professional wrestling.
