Former King of the Cage champion Mac Danzig will be one of the contestants on The Ultimate Fighter 6 this fall.
The Ultimate Fighter 6 will feature 16 welterweights vying for a six-figure UFC contract. Perhaps overshadowing the competition between the up-and-coming fighters will be a finale matchup between Matt Hughes and Matt Serra for the UFC Welterweight Championship. The feud is fueled by lots of banter back and forth between the fighters with the winner of the fight, which will be shown for free on Spike, facing the winner of Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck at UFC 74.
Danzig has traditionally been a lightweight fighter, primarily fighting in the King of the Cage promotion recently in his career. He brings a 16-4-1 record into the show including a stint as the lightweight KOTC Lightweight Champion. He lost the title at KOTC “Hard Knocks” in a split decision to Clay French this past January. In his next MMA fight he lost via KO in the second round to Hayato Sakurai at Pride 33, another recent Pride transfer.
The move to have a former KOTC champion on the show makes sense after he lost his last 2 MMA fights. It is also interesting to note that Danzig is yet another former-but-recent Pride fighter who are making the move from the organization to the UFC as part of the purchase that was made official several weeks ago.
Unlike several fighters on TUF 5 this season, Danzig shouldn’t have problems making weight considering he typically fights much lighter at 155 pounds as opposed to the 170 pound welterweight limit.
