There has been a lot of discussion online about what Jens Pulver will do following his TUF 5 Finale main event against BJ Penn. There are two likely scenarios and although a hybrid of the two is more than likely the result of his fight will affect where he heads following the bout.
With a win Pulver is expected to remain in the UFC and will likely recieve a title shot at Hermes Franca or current champion Sean Sherk depending on their bout on July 7th. Although not explicityly guaranteed it is believed that the winner of their grudge match this weekend will recieve a chance at the lightweight title. The win would also lock Pulver into the 155 lb. division for several more fights. A win by Pulver may also send Penn up a weight class.
If Pulver looses he is expected to drop to the featherweight division in World Extreme Cagefighting where he would jump into title contention quickly if not instantly. He has stated that he wants to eventually drop to the division and a loss in this fight will get him there quicker. The only snag in having Pulver go to the WEC is that the UFC would like to have him on their lightweight roster as the division is one of the weaker divisions overall for title contenders although TUF 5 along with other up-and-coming talent the division is sure to be getting more packed with talent.
While the exact path Pulver follows could differ greatly with the paths outlined above put simply it appears that a win will keep Pulver in the UFC while a loss will likely send him to the WEC for a lighter weight class.
