The Ultimate Fighter 4 winner Travis Lutter will return to the octagon in August at UFC 74. His opponent will be UFC newcomer Ryan Jensen.
Lutter is perhaps most well known for something he failed to do rather than a career accomplishment: make weight. Lutter failed to make weight for his UFC 67 matchup against Anderson Silva earlier this year receiving two shots at cutting the weight but ultimately fell a half pound short leading to criticism from fans. Lutter went on to lose the fight, which was changed to a non-title bout, by submission in the second round.
Lutter has a 2-3 UFC record with his The Ultimate Fighter 4 victory being the highlight of his career so far. Lutter had been heard of very little since the Febuary incident with many fans wondering just how long it would take Lutter to ultimately return to the UFC after the flap.
Jensen has an 11-1 overall MMA record as well as a current 6 fight win streak. Jensen has primarily fought in the International Fighting Championship and Victory Fighting Championship before receiving his shot in the biggest MMA organization in the world and the largest fight of his career to date. Versed in submissions, Jensen has claimed 8 of his victories by submission with the other 3 coming via TKO. Jensen has never had a fight go to decision losing his only fight by submission.
Despite what sounds like a mismatch on paper(a TUF tournament winner against a fighter making his UFC debut) this fight seems to be a good matchup and could be a surprise fight on the card. Jensen has had a good professional career so far while Lutter, despite having a TUF crown to his credit, has not proven his status as anything but an average UFC fighter. Although no top contender status or title shot looms over this fight both fighters are sure to have a sincere interest in winning this fight and proving they belong in the UFC.
